First Day of School 2010

The first day of school!

On the way home from a coffee date with my bestie, I stopped and bought the boys each a doughnut for breakfast today.

After breakfast we went for a walk to get a little energy out before school.

I let the boys  pick out their clothes for the day.

Their choices totally reflect who they are.

Even how they learn.

The school day went much longer than I had expected,

But I think that will change as we get into our groove.

It is a challenge to teach Pre-K and K at the same time.

It is hard for Noah to pay attention to his own work when he feels compelled to micromanage Collin.

Overall, today was great.

My thoughts are already on tomorrows lesson plan and what I will do to tweak what we did today to make it work.

Collin is already showing A TON of growth from where he was last spring when we ended the school year.

Noah as well has greatly progressed.

While we discussed everything from racing to Cinderella to the 5 senses it was intense, but peaceful.

Collin discovered he has better pen control than he thought.

He was writing A’s and number 1.

He was identifying other letters and numbers, colors and shapes too.

Noah was king of worksheet town today.

They were both very cooperative and obedient.

I hope this is a sign of things to come!

I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that I LOVE LOVE LOVE teaching my boys in a school setting. It has made such a difference in their learning and mine. I love to watch them “get it”. I love when Noah taps Collin on the shoulder to say, “Look Brother, look what I did!”. I love when Collin holds up a piece of construction paper, cut to smitherines, and proudly exclaims,” Look Noan ( not a typo, it is how he says his name) I did it! I did it!” . It is amazing and I am so thankful for the opportunity to stay at home with the boys and daily go on this journey with them! Praise the Lord!

First day of Homeschooling!

My eager students!! Collin wanted to wear his cowboy shirt and the hat that Aunt Megan gave him for his birthday. Noah wanted to wear his orange shirt, it is one of his favorite colors!

Aaron read this book about going to preschool before the boys went to bed last night and Collin wanted to hold it in his picture.

Noah looks so old to me in this picture. He is getting so big!

I think I look more excited to start school than he does! 🙂

We started the day with the story of Daniel in the lion’s den. After I read the story to them, we talked about it and then I asked the boys to share any prayer requests. Noah wanted to pray for his balls, toys, the firefighter’s and police men in a book he could see on the shelf. Collin wanted us to pray that Grandpa would not get sick again. (My dad had a stomach bug last week.)
Next we worked on the letter A. The boys are working on making their “A is for Alligator” puppet.

Our next activity was to practice cutting. Noah worked on cutting long lines, zigzag’s and wavy lines. Collin just practiced holding the scissor’s and making them work. I decided it would be fun to paste the snips to the onto a flower.

The boys did a beautiful job and now the flowers are hanging in my kitchen windows.

“Seriously, Mom!! Stop taking pictures!”

Noah working on number 1.
We had an amazing first day!! I am so proud of my boys!!

Homeschool room!!

These pictures make me giddy! I cannot tell you how excited I am to begin our homeschooling adventure next Monday. I know this is going to be one of the most difficult things I am going to do in my life, but I also feel confident that God wants me to. I am sure this will be the first of many homeschooling posts. Here we go!
